Art Africa Launches The Osu Gallery

Art Africa opened its maiden Gallery in Accra Ghana on on Friday 27th May 2022 at Osu Oxford Street. Beautiful, Colourful, Vibrant, Unique, Exquisite and Nouvelle were some of the words the guests used to describe the gallery.

The event was graced by dignitaries. H.E. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana; Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, MP for Korle Klottey Constituency; Hon. Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei, Dept. Minister for Trade & Industry and MP for Akuapem North; Mr Yofi Grant, CEO of GIPC; Ambassador Jung-Taek Lim of South Korea; Dr David Marion of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity from the USA, and many other dignitaries from the International and Ghanaian communities.

Hon. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings (MP for Korle Klottey Constituency, Greater Accra Region) welcomed all the guests to the Korley Klottey Constituency. In her Welcome Address, she mentioned her joy and honour to have Art Africa located in Osu because Osu is a strategic place for Art Africa as it sees people from all over the world and from different walks of life walk its streets daily.

Mr Kojo Choi, the Founder and Chief Promoter of Art Africa spoke passionately about the vision of Art Africa to empower artists in Ghana and Africa, develop new talent and promote cultural exchanges between Africa and the rest of the world.

Hon. Nana Ama Dokua Asiamah-Adjei (Dept. Minister for Trade & Industry & MP for Akuapem North), spoke about the importance of Art in Trade & Industry and she expressed the importance of showcasing the African culture, community, and way of life through paintings.

Mr Yofi Grant, CEO of GNPC expressed his excitement to be part of Art Africa. He talked about his friendship with Kojo Choi and encouraged all present to ‘own a piece of Africa in their homes. Mr Yofi Grant expressed his hope to see artists from different parts of the African continent coming together to showcase their works to the world through Art Africa.

H.E. The First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Rebecca Akuffo Addo, climaxed the event with her keynote address. She spoke about her appreciation of art at a young age and stated how a piece of art tells us about past and present civilizations and how art liberates our limitations. She congratulated trailblazers Ablade Glover and Larry Otoo among others for their hard work, that has birthed Art Africa and ended her address by saying that it is now Africa’s turn to showcase what we have with the rest of the world.

After her speech, she was accompanied by Mr Larry Otoo, Mr Kojo Choi and Mr Seth Clottey in unveiling Art Africa.

Featured artists included legendary artists Ablade Glover and Larry Otoo. Other featured artists were Kofi Nduro, Seth Clottey, Eric Borketey, Jonathan Ashley, Hilton Korley and Godwin Adjei Sowah. Also at the event were performances by poet Emma Ofosua and musician Nene. The MC was Matthew Ansah.
